About EGO

Taken by Paul Kim.
EGO is a student group at UC Berkeley devoted to practicing, performing, and sharing P’ungmul: Korean traditional drumming. Since its establishment in 2000, EGO has flourished into a prominent, unified group of 30+ active members which strives to share with CAL and the Bay Area both the excitement and the deep traditional Korean culture and history lying behind each passionate beat and rhythm in P’ungmul.
We normally practice on Upper or Lower Sproul on Saturday mornings. We also teach a class (ie. DeCAL course) on campus for which you can earn units. (For more information about our practices and DeCAL, check out our Schedule and Contact pages. Also check out Decal.org at the beginning of each semester to learn how to register for our course.)

If you are a UC Berkeley student and are interested in becoming a part of our family, email us at ego.staff@lists.berkeley.edu, so we can email you updates on our practices, performances, social events, and other upcoming activities. We also hold an informational orientation (including a free performance!) at the beginning of each fall semester, so check for updates here or find us flyering on Upper Sproul in the beginning of fall! For more information about official membership, please check out the Members page.
We are more than happy to perform for venues, organizations, and special events! If you would like us to perform for you, please check out our Contact page. To see what pieces we perform regularly, check out the Media page.
